From: "Lost Lakes Member Community" To: eva@lostlakes.net Subject: Lost Lakes Newsletter Preview Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2008 04:09:21 -0000 X-Mailer: SMF Dear Lost Lakes Members and Staff, There has been a very important change in the way Lost Lakes will be run. For those of you who do not know, over the past few days I have been consulting with both members and staff about the state of the dream. As hard a pill it is to swallow, one thing is unanimous: The dream's time has come. Like all things, Lost Lakes has seen its day in the spotlight, and that day has passed. The dream will never be what it was. The futile attempts I have made to resurrect the dream were a bit foolish. Even if someone better suited than I (and I am sure there are many) were to take over the project, it would never be what it was when it was infused with the personality of Alexsi, and it would die eventually. So where does that leave us? To keep this letter as brief as possible: there will be changes in the way Lost Lakes will be operated. The changes are as follows: 1.) We are revoking our status as a Guild - Despite ensuring us a place in the Furcadian landscape, and having the oldest active charter, having a guild offers nothing substantial to the dream except pressure. Furthermore, as the Furcadian structure moves away from the idea of guilds and more towards groups and dream packages, Lost Lakes can pick and choose for pay services that suit us and free us from dependency on the bot. Furcadian URLs give us universal access to the dream, and scattering the dream around parts of Furcadia allow us to serendipitously pick up new members. 2.) The dream will be reduced in size - About 50 to 75% of what exists in Lost Lakes will be eliminated through a map reduction. By creating a smaller dream with a new feel and old features, we can create a more tight nit, easier to maintain locale - a home for those few users who are in the dream. The excess space is unneeded. 3.) The forum idea will be eliminated - To further our sense of community and intimacy, Lost lakes will be replacing a forum with Newsletter communication. Monthly or so, I willl send out the latest news of members: Projects in and outside of Furcadia we are working on, dream updates and questions/ideas. All mail in response will be harvested and used to construct response in the next edition of the newsletter. This is much more personal, I feel. For the readers of this letter, make it known your names are archived and will be forwarded to the new email system. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about these vast changes, please email me. Eva eva@lostlakes.net
